Friday 12th February!!

E-safety week
Check out Mrs White's final e-safety message today by following the link below. This generation is exposed to more technology than ever before and I'm sure there will be even great steps forward in technological development so it is essential that we provide them with the tools to keep themselves safe and who they can go for to get support, starting with parents, carers and teachers and what they must do if the feel unsafe online. It is important that we give them the information early so they are prepared if something should happen.
Warm up ready for Friday.
Weekly spellings
Have you remembered to practise your spellings? Our weekly spellings this week are words with the ‘ee’ and ‘ai’ digraph in them. Can you now write your spellings all by yourself? Re-watch Mrs Fient’s video from Monday if you need some extra help.
Challenge- can you write your spellings outside? You could use mud and water to make your own paint. Or could you find natural objects to spell your words! Have fun!
Reading
Join in with Miss Woodford as she reads a bug club story. Today we are going to read the story of the Top Cat. This links with our learning of the Chinese New Year as it was the cat who didn’t get a year named after it.
Remember to log onto bug club and read a book that has been allocated for you! Have a go at the quiz at the end. Remember to record it in your reading record book to work towards your ‘going for gold!’
Emerging Phonics
Today we are segmenting words and blending sounds to make words. We are using the sounds we have learnt this week, ff, ll and ss in words.

To move across you must move like your chosen animal and sound out and read the words on each card - if you can't your grown up will take the card away - watch out for those sharks as you have to make a bigger jump!!
Good luck!

Topic - Happy Chinese New Year
Today we are going to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Watch the CBeebies videos below to see how Chinese New Year is prepared for and celebrated by two children in Liverpool.
The first thing we need to do is clean! Maybe you could offer to clean your bedroom for your grown ups!
Now you need to make some decorations, maybe a Chinese paper lantern and a dragon mask. Remember red is a very important colour in the celebrations. You could also try making a Chinese New Year drum or a red envelope. Paper plates make good dragon masks and drums. There are some links below to help you. Maybe you could paint some Chinese characters, dance to some Chinese music and have a party! Chinese New Year is all about being with family so why not ask you brothers, sisters and grown ups to join your celebrations.
On Purple Mash we have set some to-dos linked to Chinese New Year - there is an amazing slideshow of pictures and some paint activities - a lantern, a dragon mask and a firework picture.
Maybe your grown-ups have some Chinese foods that you could taste!
Happy Chinese New Year everyone - good luck and best wishes for the coming year!

Topic - all that rubbish!
We waste so many precious resources and create so much rubbish that we need to take action to save our planet.
We can all help by reducing our waste, reusing things and recycling plastic, paper, tins, clothes and even toys and books can be reused by other children. We can all do our bit to help the environment - in school we have the separate bins for paper, plastic and food waste (so we can compost).
We are going to recycle today by using our reclaimed materials to make the junk model that you designed in the writing challenge today. Some ideas can be found on cbeebies in the junk rescue programme if you need some inspiration - the link is below.
Also take a look at the BBC teach video that shows what happens to our rubbish.
