Today we will be focusing on the sounds e and u and will be using these for our writing challenges below. We have been revisiting these sounds in phonics so today we will work on saying, hearing and writing these sounds. Watch and join in with Miss Sawkins' video to help you.
Challenge 1- Look at the first set of pictures below, can you say the words and tell your grown up what each word starts with. Can you write the sound that starts each of the words. Have a go at sounding the words egg, elf and up out using your fingers, this will help you to hear the initial (first) sound in the words.
Challenge 2- Look at the pictures below, sound out the words and use these sounds to write the words. - Can you have a go at writing the words to match the pictures at home? What sounds can you hear? What is the first sound? What sound comes next? The sound made by the letter u is more common in the middle of a word. Can you write the sounds to match the pictures at home? You will need to hear, say and write the initial (first) and final sounds.
Writing - Quick Write

Maths
Maths is not just about number but shape, space and measurement to. Today and tomorrow in maths we will be looking at shapes - both 2D and 3D.
Today our focus is 2D shapes - these are shapes that have sides and corners and are completely flat. You may be able to spot them as faces on the 3D shapes on Friday.
The children need to recognise the 2D shapes and be able to describe their properties, how many sides and corners, straight or curved sides, and the difference/similarities between squares and rectangle.
Emerging - confident with circle, square, triangle and rectangle
Expected - confident with describing a wider range of 2D shapes, as emerging but also pentagon, hexagon, octagon, oval
Exceeding - as emerging but also looking at everyday objects and shapes and describing them using correct mathematical terms - name, sides and corners, straight and curved.
Look for shapes around your home and garden (like Zach and Reggie in the Pancake Manor clip). Create a shape picture - can you make a person or a vehicle using simple shapes. Go on a shape hunt. Can you sort some everyday objects into shapes.
Watch the Numberblocks video about flatland - link below
Zach and Reggie notice that shapes are literally everywhere! Shapes is a fun, educational song teaching children how to see shapes in everything they see around them.
Topic

Caterpillar ordering - set bottom slider to far left first - then set top slider by moving to the left to 10 or 20 (or higher if appropriate!)
Exceeding - expected first then ordering up to 5 random numbers and challenge game - domino number pieces (see link below)
Once you have had a go using your number cards have a go at some of the online games below. NRich search domino number patterns (top right for search)
Topic with Miss Sawkins - Black and White creatures
Poor Reggie Rabbit, Harry Hedgehog and Sid Squirrel have been stolen from our classrooms. We need to gather together some suspects. What clues do we have from the adults at school?
Can you think of some black and white creatures or people that may have taken them?
Who could have taken them?
Where might they have taken them to?
Why might they have taken them?
Can you research some black and white creatures in books or on the internet. Remember our e-safety rules.
Follow the link for some black and white creatures - which of these animals could it have been and which couldn't it have been - can you give evidence for your suggestions
e.g. It couldn't be the butterfly as it wouldn't have been able to carry them.
Can you draw a picture of who you think is the most likely suspect. What black and white animals live around our school?
Everyone can draw - see mine and my grandchildren's drawings below but remember I am very old and have been drawing a long time - just tell your grown-up what you have drawn and write a label. Remember, even some famous artists' work is hard to see what they have drawn!
Please post your art work on Tapestry so we can build up our line up of suspects!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
