We have been learning about the four countries of the United Kingdom. Are you able to remember what the four countries are? Today we are thinking about Scotland in our Music lesson.
Robert Burns was a Sottish Poet born over 260 years ago, and Scottish people all over the world will be celebrating his birthday which is on Monday (25th January). They will be having a meal of haggis, neaps and tatties (swede/turnip and potatoes). Have a listen to the National Scottish instrument of the bagpipes being played at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Talk with your family about what they’re wearing, how you think the bagpipes make the sound, how do they change the notes? What other instruments are being played? How often you think they practiced for this event and finally, do you like the sound?
Remember it's really important to listen to a wide range of music - you won't like all of it, but you might surprise yourself!
Today’s guided reading is all about sharks! When you open the file you will notice there are 3 levels of activity. Please use the version suitable for your child:
EMERGING : 1 STAR
EXPECTED : 2 STARS
EXCEEDING : 3 STARS
If your child is Exceeding they can go straight to the exceeding task, they don’t need to complete the Expected first like they do in Phonics.

You will need your Story Map from Friday and the writing for your story.
You will be editing your own story, which you have written, based on Katie in London but following the Story Map we made last week.
When you have finished editing your story, please send it in to us (via email or Tapestry) – with all the corrections – we love to see all the changes you made! It is not necessary to write it up neatly.

Settle down and enjoy a story.
Share with your child a book or a story that is ‘special’ to you. Explain why it is special, e.g. the story or a particular character might have impressed you or the book might have been a present from someone special.
Ask your child to find their favourite or special book. Ask them to write their reason on separate piece of paper. For example, it might be the first book/story they learned to read for themselves.
Display the book and their writing to share with your family.
Ask the children to identify their favourite nursery rhymes, poems and songs. Encourage them to talk about why they like them so much. Add these to the display too with captions to show who chose them and why they are special.
Challenge: Ask your child to identify their favourite word and to explain why this is their favourite. They could use computers to print out their favourite words using a ‘bubble’ font and they could colour in or decorate the letters.
There are messages on Ping about how to join us - it really is quite simple, just follow the step by step instructions - we're sooooo looking forward to seeing you!
We hope you’re all enjoying story time with The Twits! See which words you can find in today’s word search all about the revolting pair!
Challenge: How about making a word search with your own words from the story and asking a family member to solve it?
Keep up with reading something everyday:
After a hard days learning, relax and unwind with today’s yoga session.
1 - Stand to attention and start by doing 10-star jumps.
2 - Now do 5 hops on your right leg, then 5 on your left.
3 - Finish by running on the spot for 10 seconds and then salute.
4 - Repeat this again as fast as you can for 10 minutes, or make up your own moves.
Try again – can you do it fast this time?
Now visit this site https://www.nhs.uk/10-minuteshake-up/shake-ups/judyshopathon and see how well you can move.

You will need your Story Map from Friday and your writing from yesterday for today’s lesson.
We will be continuing to write up our own story, based on Katie in London but following the Story Map we amended last week.
Parents/Carers: please note that this is the second day of writing this story, so if you missed yesterday’s lesson, then take a look at the video. Tomorrow we’ll be Editing the writing, which is when we’ll be looking at punctuation and spellings. At this stage, let the writing flow and support your child to use their phonics to spell tricky words – if you can work out what they’ve tried to write, then that’s great!
Heads Up: We will be asking for the edited/completed work to be sent in to your teacher on Wednesday 20th January (via email or Tapestry).
Let’s start by warming our hands and fingers up ready to start writing!

After that have a go at the ‘Build a World Map’ activity which is shown below. Please upload a picture of this to Tapestry.
Today’s text is based on our Topic of Around the World in 80 Days. It was originally a book written a long time ago but this is about a man who attempted to break the record of cycling around the world in only 80 days – you’ll have to read the text to find out if he made it!!!
Look for the number of stars at the bottom of the pages to choose the correct page for you:
