Today we are going to focus on the sound ‘f’ and we will be using this sound for our challenges below. Watch and join in with Miss Woodford’s video.
Challenge 1- Can you go on a super sound hunt around your house and find things beginning with the sound ‘f’? Or you might be able to find things that have the ‘f’ sound in them! Miss Woodford found flowers, a fork and a fire engine. What will you find? Can you label the objects with the sound ‘f’?
Challenge 2: Can you jump and blend these sounds together to make some words beginning with ‘f’? Watch Miss Woodford’s video to help you.
Words: fit, fun, fat, fig, fog, fin
Phonics- Expected
Today we are going to focus on the sounds ‘oo, oo and ar’ and we will be using this sound for our challenges below. Watch and join in with Miss Woodford’s video. Remember the long ‘oo’ sound is ‘oo’ as in moon. The short ‘oo’ sound is ‘oo’ as in book.
Challenge 1: Can you read these words and sort them into the ‘long oo, short oo and ar’ sounds? You could create your own Munching Monsters just like Miss Woodford did! All of these words are real words so you may need to practise using both the long oo and short oo sounds to see which ones sound correct!
Challenge 2: Now you’ve sorted real words using the sounds oo, oo and ar… can you log on to phonics play and sort the words into real and nonsense words. Remember bob likes to eat real words and obb likes to eat silly/nonsense words!

Mrs Fient has a PowerPoint down in the Topic section and you can look on Purple Mash searching people who help us and it is the second tab down - tools and games = but it is a simple story that the children will be able to read independently.
Some of the people who helps us are doctors, nurses, teachers, delivery drivers, shop workers, lollipop people, vets, dentists and bus drivers. Maybe you have a relative that does on of these jobs or another job where they help other people.
Challenges
Emerging - say and write a sentence - I can see a ... Write the initial sounds in words and have a go at some of the other sounds you can hear - shared writing with an adult

Writing
Today we are going to be learning about a lifeguard and lifeboats, we will find out information about lifeguards and their lifeboats and also how these are used in an emergency! Watch Miss Woodford’s video below to find out key information about lifeguards and lifeboats, this will help you with your writing challenges!
Emerging Writing
Can you write the initial (beginning) and final (end) sounds in your speech bubble? Can you say your sentence out loud before writing?
The example below shows shared writing between an adult and child. The child is green and the adult is pink. Please watch the ‘how to’ emerging video to support.
I need help!
Expected Writing
Can you write a simple sentence in a speech bubble? This could be the lifeguard speaking or the person needing help speaking, have a think about what they might be saying. Practise saying your sentence before writing and count how many words you need to write your sentence in the speech bubble. Can you write the sentence independently by using your phonics to sound out the words? Can you add a tricky word?
Exceeding Writing
Can you add a caption under your picture? Can you add a tricky word? Your caption can describe what is happening in the picture. See Miss Woodford’s video to help with this. This can be a caption to describe what a lifeguard does or it could even include the name of the lifeboat in the picture! For example, The lifeguard keeps us safe at the beach. The lifeguard uses an all weather boat.
Maths - capacity
Today we will be exploring capacity - this is how much a container holds. We usually use water or sand when working on capacity at school.
We are learning to use the vocabulary to describe how much a container holds, such as full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty or empty.
To explore capacity you will need a few clear containers and a cup or similiar -
All:-
Can you fill the container to match the vocabulary above - Emerging full. half full and empty?
Can you describe how much is in your container using the vocabulary above - Emerging full, half full and empty?
Expected - Can use your cup to find out which container holds the most and the least?
Exceeding - as above and then can you order your containers from the one that holds the most to the least?
See the video below for support
Topic - Lifeboats and Coastguards
Today we are looking at the vehicles that keep us safe on the beach, in the sea and rivers and along the coastline.
The coastguards use helicopters and lots of different boats and the RNLI have lifeboats that launch from around the coast to save people in trouble.
There are lots of things you can do to keep yourself safe around the sea - the most important one is to always stay close to your grown-ups. If you need the lifeboat or the coastguards you need to call 999 like all the other emergency services.
The lifeboat crew have to be very brave and put to see in all weather conditions and many of them are awarded medals of bravery. Grace Darling was awarded a bravery medal in 1838 - that is a very long time ago. She was a lighthouse keeper's daughter and she helped to save some people in a terrible storm, she had no safety equipment and would have been wearing a really long heavy dress and she only had a little rowing boat - she was a very brave lady because if she had fallen in she would have drowned.
Find out more a lifeboat station, the lifeboat and the crew that man the boat with Gecko in the video below.
There is also a weblink to meet Colin the coastguard and his friends, one of which is Goodwin the lifeboat man.
Could you draw a picture of Goodwin and his lifeboat?
Gecko goes sailing on a huge lifeboat when he visits the Hoylake Lifeboat station to learn all about this amazing vehicle and the crew who sail her.
Story time
Watch and join in with Miss Woodford as she reads the story ‘The Paper Dolls’. You could even grab a blanket, get cosy and enjoy the story with your grown up or sibling! Could you make your own paper dolls at home?
