Hello and welcome to Zebra Class's page!
If you are a parent of a child in Zebra Class and are on here to look at what we have been doing recently, please don't forget to look on Tapestry as well! In the meantime please check out our 'useful websites' section at the bottom of the page where you can find lots of fun educational sites for doing schoolwork at home.
We are always looking to win Eric the Bookbug, so please remember to write in your child's Reading Record when you have heard them read at home. If you forget to write it in, we can't prove the reading happened and we won't win!
Phonics is a very important part of our day in Year One. In the summer term, all Year One pupils have to do a Phonics Screening Check which consists of 40 real and fake words the children have to decode and read aloud. If the children just miss out on the pass mark, they will have to retake the check the following year.
We need to work together to ensure that your child has the best possible chance of passing this check so any reading helps. Whether it is reading books, reading signposts or reading menus in restaurants, these can all be recorded in your child's reading record so we can see just how much your child is using their phonics.
If you are unsure of the pronounciation of any of the graphemes in your child's reading book, or would just like a reminder, please watch the video below.
Zebra Class recently went on a science walk around the school looking out for natural and manmade materials. We also used the Ipad to take lots of photos of these materials and had some interesting discussions about whether they were natural, manmade or both!
We had a lot of fun on our walk. Can you decide which of the materials in our photos are manmade and which ones are natural?
